PRCA bareback riding is a rodeo event where a rider attempts to stay on a bucking horse for eight seconds while using only one hand. The rider uses a leather rigging, similar to a suitcase handle, to stay on the horse. The rigging, which resembles a suitcase handle on a strap, is placed atop the horse's withers and secured with a cinch. Bareback riding has been compared to riding a jackhammer with one hand.

Steer wrestling, also known as bulldogging, is a rodeo event in which a horse-mounted rider chases a steer, drops from the horse to the steer, then wrestles the steer to the ground by grabbing its horns and pulling it off-balance so that it falls to the ground. The event carries a high risk of injury to the cowboy.

Team roping is a rodeo event in which two ropers and their horses work together to rope a steer. As the only true team event in ProRodeo, team roping requires close cooperation and timing between two highly skilled ropers - a header and a heeler - and their horses. The event originated on ranches when cowboys needed to treat or brand large steers and the task proved too difficult for one man.

Bronc riding, either bareback bronc or saddle bronc competition, is a rodeo event that involves a rodeo participant riding a bucking horse (sometimes called a bronc or bronco) that attempts to throw or buck off the rider.

Tie-down roping is an authentic ranch skill that originated from working cowboys. Once the calf has been roped, the cowboy dismounts and runs down the length of the rope to the calf. When the calf is on the ground, the cowboy ties three legs together.
